sales-i has yet another new(ish) starter, say hello to Philip Baker. Phil has been with us for just over a month so I think its about time we got to know him a little better.

Let the questions commence.

When did you start at sales-i?

17 June 2013.

What does your role involve at sales-i?

  • Ensuring our finances are compliant with UK and US requirements.
  • Adding back to the business with relevant information to aide decision making via profitability analysis, adding control to base processes etc.
  • Trying to stop the marketing team from spending all our money (I don’t remember seeing a PO for this blog so I hope it is free).

What’s your background?

I come from a statutory audit background mainly. I spent eleven and a half years in audit including five and a half at Ernst & Young. I then spent a year as a Financial Controller at a manufacturing company where the product was seafood – mainly prawns and calamari. I don’t eat seafood so didn’t really benefit from the staff discount there.

Why work for sales-i?

It is a growing, engaging business. Everyone here wants the business to do better than it currently is. A lot of places will say that their staff wants the company to do well but here you can believe it – people care and that makes it a great place to work.

If you could have a super power what would it be?

Teleportation. I would never need to use price comparison sites for my car insurance again. Also teleporting behind your friends and screaming down their ears could be fun.

If you were a Microsoft Office program, which one would you be?

Excel – I looooooove spreadsheets.

Finally, would you rather fight an elephant sized squirrel or 100 squirrel sized elephants?

I would have to go with 100 squirrel sized elephants.

Thanks Phil for taking the time out of your busy schedule doing numbers and other accounting things to answer our questions.

I’m the Marketing Manager here at sales-i and being in marketing I obviously love crayons and of course I have a toy Chewbacca on my desk (fully equipped with the ‘Maaaaaarh’ noise!

I have worked in the technology industry for over 7 years and have a good grasp on what’s happening in the industry. I also enjoy* the technical side of software development.

*The term ‘enjoy’ relates to the very few occasions where the techy side actually goes to plan, otherwise replace with the term ‘gets frustrated’.
